The most important way that Nordic artists can use Facebook

I think I could also have named this posting "The single biggest mistake I see Nordic artists making on Facebook" — but I'd prefer to keep this positive. :-)

On New Year's Day my local PBS station showed the stop-animation (also known as model animation) film Peter and the Wolf and I had the pleasure of watching it in HD. Wow!
And then I discovered that it has a Scandinavian connection. The special effects shots in the film were done by Storm Studio, based in Oslo, Norway.

The [...]

Can I borrow your bunad?

This morning, one of my Twitter contacts posted the following:
Trying to get my hands on a Norwegian national costume for a hardingfele performance in January; it's not looking good…
It occurred to me that this would be a good opportunity to share part of a December 2006 posting I made on a listserv for people interested [...]

What is a bunad?

In the Nordic countries, there is no one single "national costume" that represents the entire country, so using the term "national costume" is incorrect. It is more accurate to refer to these outfits as "regional" costumes. The Danes use the word folkedragter or something similar. I think Swedes use folkdräkter. Finns probably use a word with [...]

On Friday, 27 November, more than 1.2 million Norwegians watched parts of “Bergensbanen” on the Norwegian television channel,  NRK2. This is an astonishing fact because this means that more than 25% of the country watched this one television show on that one day.

A new take on an old carol

Norwegian National Broadcasting (NRK) has just released a video of the traditional Norwegian Christmas carol, "Det lyser i stille grender (The Lights In The Peaceful Villages)".

It's done by a group called "Julemorgen" as part of the NRK children's series, Super, and their "Jul i Svingen (Christmas in Full Swing)". I think the video  – and the [...]

In one of the very first postings on Multe Music, I wrote about a tune written by Norwegian fiddler Sturla Eide, "Tog i natta (A Train In The Night)", that was inspired by a visit to our fair town of Northfield, Minnesota.
Recently Eide put a video (in HD, no less) of one of his performances [...]
