In one of the very first postings on Multe Music, I wrote about a tune written by Norwegian fiddler Sturla Eide, "Tog i natta (A Train In The Night)", that was inspired by a visit to our fair town of Northfield, Minnesota.
Recently Eide put a video (in HD, no less) of one of his performances of the tune up on his YouTube channel. And here it is!
Eide says:
The tune is inspired by a night in the town [of] Northfield in Minnesota, where several trains were passing thru the night outside my hotel room window. I was a little bit homesick and was dreaming about Norway, but all the trains were disturbing me. In the end the birds started to sing and I just gave up on the sleeping. Some months later, I found the sound of the train whistle on my Hardanger fiddle, the inspiration struck me, and the tune came along.
Eide says that the tune gets a great response from concert audiences — and the one listening in the video is no exception.
The video was shot at a concert Eide did in the Orkal church in Sør-Trøndelag. He has said that he considers it one of his best performances of the tune.
Sturla Eide's music, including this tune, is available through iTunes and Amazon MP3s. Check him out!
