It's not often that I can say I'm ahead of Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report, but in the case of MOVITS! — I can. I had already planned to feature a tune on an upcoming Multe Music show/podcast. You can be sure there'll be one this Saturday!
MOVITS! is a swing/hip-hop/jazz band from Sweden. I became aware of them through research I was doing on MySpace when I ran across their MySpace page and "friended" them 'cause I liked what I heard. Then I found their YouTube channel. And then I picked up their CD when I was in Europe. So earlier this month, I featured a posting about one of their videos, "Fel del av gården (Wrong side of the tracks)" here on Multe Music.

How fun to hear that they were inspired by Benny Goodman's "Swing, Swing, Swing!"
And here is MOVITS! performing live on The Colbert Report. They really rocked the house! Heia MOVITS! Look for their music on iTunes. It'll be available in August.

Colbert — who had discovered the group through ReddIt.com — featured the group in an interview and then they performed "Fel del av gården" live. I've gotta give Colbert and his writers a lot of credit for doing their research and creating great questions and responses such as:
- "What do you have to rap about in Sweden? What are you upset about — that you no longer control Norway?" [A reference to the peaceful dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905 which came a few years after Alfred Nobel designated in his will that a committee from the Norwegian parliament should choose the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.]
- "How many of your lyrics are about lingonberries?"
- After getting the translation of the MOVITS! album name ("Äppelknyckarjazz" which means "Apple-stealing-jazz"), he's incredulous — "Sweden's largest crime problem is…fruit theft?!"
To the guys in MOVITS!: I'm not anywhere as "big" as Colbert, but I'd love to have you on my radio show/podcast if you're ever in my area.
