Tages: Get Up And Get Going

During the heyday of 1960 Swedish pop music, two of the well-known bands were the Hep Stars and Hootenanny Singers.

The Hep Stars had Benny Andersson and the Hootenanny Singers had Björn Ulvaeus — both of whom joined together later to form a little group called ABBA.

Probably the biggest rival band to the Hep Stars was a band called Tages. Their main songwriter was a guy named Tommy Blom.

The video below is of Tages on a Swedish television show and was probably filmed around 1966.

Some viewers have called it the worst example of lip-synching. You can tell they're reading from cue cards. For example, at 0:18, you can see the director/camera man is holding up a huge card slightly off camera.

And, from time to time, the blond-haired guy and the guy with the tambourine look up to the left corner to see what theyr'e supposed to be singing. Of course, they could also be nervous about being on television and having to lip-synch.

Ah, the early days of television playback.

Nevertheless, it's great to see something from this era.
