Cooking up a bukkehorn

Magnar Storbækken of Tolga, Norway is known as one of his country's experts in older folk music instruments.

His web site at NatureInstrumentar not only shows the various kinds of instruments that Storbækken makes, but the page for each instrument includes photos and a sound file demonstrating the instrument. What a great educational tool!

In this video, he shows the beginning of the process in making a bukkehorn — a musical instrument made from a ram's horn.

The background music is bukkehorn, played by Jørn Simenstad.
