In October, I wrote about how the Norwegian dance, halling (also known as laus) had been filmed in motion-capture for inclusion in the Age of Conan game. Hallgrim Hansegård, a Class A (Master) laus dancer in Norway, was the dancer filmed for the sequence.
I've now located a video that shows the dance in its entirety being danced by two different characters. Mind you, they're not wearing bunads — but the simplicity of dress allows the viewer to see the total body movement of the character.
The halling was filmed for use with "Cimmerian" characters in the game. It's in the video below from the beginning until 1'54". The video shows the dance being danced by both genders — a female and then a male character.
While there are women who have and do dance halling in the "real world", it is traditionally known as a men's dance. It's nice to know that it's equal participation (and skill) in this part of the gaming world. Now even I can have the opportunity to dance like Hallgrim Hansegård — if only in virtual reality..,
Age of Conan is available from Amazon.
