If you're a Scandinavian enthusiast who may be traveling to Latin America, you might want to be aware that there are a number of Nordic folk dance groups there — as well as musicians who play. They are having a festival in May 2009 in Buenos Aires and sent me the following information:

Scandinavian Folk Dance Days in Argentina

Jornadas Argentinas de Folkedans (J.A.F 2009)

http://www.jaf2009.blogspot.com

Place: Danish Church in Buenos Aires, Carlos Calvo 257, Ciudad Autå³noma de Buenos Aires, Argentina

Dates: May 1st, 2nd, 3th 2009

There already six groups registered. A group from Brazil will be joining five groups from Argentina:

  • Dansk folkedans group of Tandil (Argentina)
  • Dansk folkedans group of Tres Arroyos (Argentina)
  • Dansk folkedans group "Skaal" of San Carlos de Bariloche (Argentina)
  • Scandinavian folkedans group "Den Nordiska Dansgruppen" of Oberå¡ (Argentina)
  • Svensk folkedans group "Svenska Danser" of Ijuå (Brasil)
  • Dansk folkedans group "DUBA" (Dansk Ungdomsforening i Buenos Aires) of Bs As (Argentina)

This is the first time  "Jornadas Argentinas de Folkedans (J.A.F 2009)" will be held. Registrations are open! For more information, send an e-mail to: clemensliliana@hotmail.com

Here's a video of some clips of the Argentinian Danish dance group, DUBAFolke, accompanied by Huldraslåt — a group of Argentinian-based musicians who specialize in playing traditional Nordic music.
