In late January, the Upper Potomac Scandinavian Fiddle & Dance Weekend was held in Shepherdstown, West Virginia .
(Note to event organizers: Multe Music is always happy to receive advance notice of your event so that we can announce it on the blog and to our listening audience.)
A highlight of the weekend was the "Scandinavian Fiddle Magic" concert sponsored by Shepherdstown Music and Dance on January 23, 2009 at Shepherdstown University that featured Swedish master fiddler Göran Olsson.

Here he is playing fiddle at the concert and leading the group of the workshop's American teachers in a waltz from Kall. From left to right: Charlie Pilzer, Andrea Hoag, Goran Olsson, Loretta Kelley, Julia Borland-Ferneborg and Bruce Sagan.
At the workshops, Olsson taught couples dances from the Swedish gammeldanstradition and from Jämtland, including hambo, snoa, and variations of polka, polska, mazurka, and schottis.
