A number of videos of traditional Icelandic dance have begun to appear on YouTube. I find this one particularly interesting.
This is an Icelandic dance from the long dance / song dance tradition that dates back at least to Viking times. These type of dances are also preserved in the Faeroe Islands. They were brought back to Norway in the 20th century.
It's refreshing to see people doing these dances in street clothes and not in national costume. Now, this may be a rehearsal or social gathering for an Icelandic performing group, but they aren't presenting this as a performance.

This is what these dance were originally meant to be, a social event. The dance is not just a dance. The words tell a story in which the entire group participates.
Note that the dance has two parts. The first part has different steps and arm positions from the second part — which seems to be like a "chorus".
I think it's great to have these types of videos appearing on YouTube. I just wish they would write more in the comments (and in English) so that more people could understand what they are viewing. What is the song? Do the steps or arm positions have a certain meaning? What is the history? When is it to be danced/sung? Where is the text from and what does it say?
