This morning's weather report includes a winter storm warning — snow is definitely on the way.
Which made me think… How many tunes in my library reflect on snow or snowfall? Lo and behold, I found a whole set. Some of them I hadn't cataloged yet and some need to be added to my winter holiday play list.
So this week, I'll explore some music that has "snow" in it, beginning with "Snøen (The Snow)" from the CC Cowboys' 2006 album, Evig Liv (Eternal Life). A loose translation of the first few lines:
Now comes the snow and the winter is here again. And heaven is making white crystals that dress up the earth again.
The song uses the metaphor of winter to reminisce about a relationship that has ended.
Do you think of the summer when you're freezing? Do you dream of the warmth when you are cold?
I like the way that the music starts softly, like the early stages of a snowfall and then builds in intensity as the theme develops.
The album itself received some good reviews in the Norwegian press. Hans Fredrik Johansen of Musikkavisen said that he felt the tunes were some of the group's best.
